Off the Rails Episode 03: Stay in Your Lane

Trade shows are falling apart, but what are we really missing? The product announcements? The training sessions? The parties? With recent DSE, ISE, InfoComm, and other show announcements we asked ourselves those questions and ponder what we believe the impact of the ‘show’ really is and what it should be. Will new product announcements continue to orbit around large trade shows and conferences or will the recent spate of mini-events (often focused solely on a single manufacturer) serve as valued replacements?

We then turn our attention to the real convergence story in higher ed AV, and it’s nothing to do with the network; it’s the merging of pedagogy and technology. We’ve found ourselves increasingly responsible for support calls that initially appear to be about technology, but turn out that the instructor really needs instructional help. Which raises the question of, “how are we suppose to stay in our lane (AV), if it’s merging into theirs (instructional design)?”

This will be the start of an occasional, on-going series.

Originally Recorded on September 25, 2020 We discuss the changing relationship between trade shows and new products, take a look at AV's responsibility in supporting pedagogy, and dive into the mailbag to answer your questions.
